So You Want to be a Wizard - Diane Duane
The Once and Future King - T.H. White
The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien
I realize that I am in the minority, but I have really enjoyed the last couple books. I thought that there were several parallels that could be drawn between Wizards at War and Native Tongue, the most apparent being that Memeki was waiting for a word that would cause/inspire her to become the Hesper, thus changing the shape of the universe and the balance between good and evil, while the women of the Lines created a language that changed them and the world around them.
There were several instances in the novel where characters (Memeki, Ronan, Sker'ret, Ponch, etc) were faced with a choice between embracing their destiny and becoming more, or turning away and remaining who they have always been. How do Duane's ideas about destiny and becoming compared to those presented in Giant's Star and Grass? Does Duane's concept of destiny and choice help to define what is good and what is evil in the novel?
